The influence of visual attention on developmental disorders such as dyslexia

After a half century of dyslexia research there is an agreement that learning to read and to spell requires specific precursers that develop within stages of the individual ontogenesis. An important role in these stages plays visual attention. In particular, the diagnostic and the training of visual attention plays a crucial role, but it is not mandatory required in the field of clinical diagnostics. An temporally precise diagnostic method such as eye tracking is thus necessary to examining visual attention. With this method it is possible to make instant assumptions about neural dysfunctions in developmental delays and thus, to establish individual training strategies in order to improve reading.
